Ηλίας Σανδάλης

Ilias Sandalis is President of the Hellenic Facility Management Association (HFMA), the leading professional association dedicated to advancing the Facility Management profession in Greece, and Commercial Manager at GEK Services, a member of the GEK TERNA Group.

He is a Mechanical Engineer, holding an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Patras and an MBA in Engineering–Economic Systems from the National Technical University of Athens.

With more than 20 years of professional experience in Facility Management, Energy Services, Renewable Energy and Industrial Operations, Mr. Sandalis has held senior leadership positions in internationally recognized organizations, including GEK Services, ENGIE, ISS Facility Services and Shell Hellas. His expertise encompasses commercial management, business development, strategic planning, technical services, asset and infrastructure management, and organizational transformation.

As President of HFMA, he leads initiatives that strengthen the role of Facility Management as a strategic discipline for the sustainable operation, resilience and long-term performance of the built environment and critical infrastructure. He actively promotes collaboration between academia, industry and public institutions, supporting the adoption of international standards, digital technologies and best practices.

His professional interests include Smart Cities, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), digital transformation, ESG, asset lifecycle management, operational resilience and business continuity. He is a strong advocate of Facility Management as the operational layer that enables intelligent infrastructure to perform safely, efficiently and sustainably throughout its lifecycle.

Through HFMA, he promotes the implementation of ISO 41001 and the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Digital Twins and data-driven asset management into facility operations, reinforcing the role of Facility Management as a cornerstone of resilient and intelligent infrastructure.

Mr. Sandalis is a frequent speaker at international conferences, executive forums and professional events, where he shares practical experience and strategic perspectives on the future of Facility Management, resilient infrastructure, sustainable mobility and smart built environments.
